6 dead in Mich. after storms
Comments 0 | Recommend 0WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - As people brace for the next round of storms, many are still cleaning up from this weekend.
Powerful storms blew threw that killed five people in West Michigan and one woman near Lansing.
At least six people died in our state as a result of these storms. Some were simply sitting in their homes when it happened, others were driving on dangerous roads.
In Allegan County, two people are dead after a bridge washed out near Fennville. A 51-year-old woman and her 16-year-old nephew were delivering newspapers Sunday morning when the unthinkable happened. Their car drove into a washout.
Part of Lakeshore Drive north of M-89 collapsed. The guard rails were left dangling. Their bodies were later recovered after responders had to dig through debris.
"We don't know exactly what happened, we're still under investigation. We don't know if the road was already out or if they drove across and the road gave way," said Lt. Dave Greydangus of the MSP Saugatuck-Wayland Post.
In Spring Lake, a car was hit by a tree limb. It killed the 26-year-old driver.
Another person also died when tree fell on them.
One man drowned while tending to a dam.
A Lansing-area woman died when high winds blew a recreational vehicle on top of her.
There were no reports of funnel cloud touchdowns, but there was still extensive wind damage.
