Driver in U.P. crash that killed 3 pleads guilty
Comments 0ST. IGNACE, Mich. (AP) - A Midland County man accused of driving into a group of people walking along an Upper Peninsula road, killing three women, has pleaded no contest to three counts of negligent homicide.
Mackinac County Prosecutor Fred Feleppa also says 28-year-old Dustan L. Bowen pleaded guilty Friday to three counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death.
The Sanford man could be sentenced to more than 22 years in prison at a March 18 hearing.
Feleppa says Bowen admitted responsibility for the July 25 crash that killed 26-year-old Jonel Hoogterp and 31-year-old Julie Hatch, both of Durham, N.C., and 24-year-old Sara Dobbrastine of Kent City.
Police say they were among 10 people walking along a road while gathered for a family reunion.
