A spokesperson for American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. confirmed the company will be restructured and its plant in Three Rivers will get new business. It will make axles for the commercial-truck market.
The news came during a conference discussing the company's second-quarter results. The automotive supplier reported a net loss of $644.3 million in the three-month period. It claims the loss is largely due to the 87 day trike.
Spokesperson Renee Rogers also confirmed that more than 2,000 employees are leaving. The company says that 2,000 of its 3,652 hourly workers are taking the early retirement buyout offered by American Axle.
