Wayne-Westland cancels classes as teachers picket
Comments 0 | Recommend 0WESTLAND, Mich. (AP) - Classes in the Wayne-Westland Community Schools are being been canceled for a second day as teachers remain off the job in protest over lack of a contract.
A notice on the western Wayne County district's Web site calls Monday's picketing "an illegal strike" and urges teachers to return to class while talks continue. It says classes are off again Tuesday.
Union spokeswoman Melissa Sortman says about 853 teachers picketed Monday.
The Wayne-Westland Education Association says money and health insurance are major sticking points in its contract talks with the 13,000-student district.
