IONIA, Mich. (Newschannel 3) - Two young children are in the hospital after falling out of a second-story window that didn't have a screen in it.

It happened at a home in the 300 blk. of West Main St. In Ionia around 10 a.m. on Friday.

Police say witnesses reported seeing the children sitting on the window sill with their feet dangling down, just before the fall happened.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the18-month-old boy unconscious on the ground, and his 2-and a-half-year-old sister awake and talking.

Both were transported via Aero Med to the DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment, where the little boy is in critical condition, and the little girl is in fair condition.

Police are still investigating the accident, and the prosecutor's office will decide whether anyone will face charges.
