Fired up over wood burning stoves
Comments 0 | Recommend 0TEXAS TOWNSHIP (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Folks in Kalamazoo County are concerned about plans for a new outdoor wood burner ordinance.
Several people have turned to the burners to cut down their home heating costs.
Critics say they're both polluters and eye-sores.
They took the issue to the Texas Township Planning Board.
"I think its terrible that people are putting in these uncontrolled outdoor burners for heating a home," said Texas Township resident Clarence Wentzel.
"Where I'm at we don't have the natural gas option. [It costs] $2,500 a year," said Texas Township resident Mickey Hall.
Right now Texas Township only requires burners to be 50 feet from neighboring property.
Monday night board members drew up an ordinance that would require a minimum of five acres of property to put up a burner.
