UAW, American Axle Reach Deal That Could End Strike
Comments 0 | Recommend 0DETROIT (AP) - An American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Inc. spokeswoman confirms the auto parts supplier has reached a tentative agreement with the United Auto Workers that could end a bitter 80-day strike.
Renee Rogers says both sides reached a deal reached late Friday.
UAW President Ron Gettelfinger says in a statement the American Axle bargaining committee has voted to recommend the agreement to members.
The union says details would be presented to members in Detroit on Sunday. Times and locations were still being arranged.
It's unclear when votes would take place or when the workers could return to their jobs. About 3,600 UAW members at five factories have been on strike since Feb. 26 over the company's demand for reduced wages.
