5 Car Accident Caused By Sleeping Semi Driver

BATTLE CREEK (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan State Police say a semi truck driver fell asleep at the wheel and plowed into five cars Friday on Interstate 94.

Troopers say the accident happened on I-94 near 22 1/2 mile road in Calhoun County. The semi driver is a 37-year-old Illinois man.

21-year old Garden City female was injured in the accident. She has been treated and released from the hospital.

A 50 year old New Boston female. Last reported she was recovering in Bronson Hospital with serious injuries. A 55 year old Fort Gratiot Female. Last reported she was also recovering in the hospital with serious injures.

Two other people a 60 year-old Vicksburg man and a 31-year-old Madison Heights man refused treatment at the scene.

The semi drive was not injured and issued a citation at the scene of the accident.

I-94 west bound was closed for about 2 hours as police tried to clear up the accident.
