"THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG" - BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH
BERLIN (AP) -- Benedict Cumberbatch went straight to the zoo when he landed the role of the dragon in "The Desolation of Smaug." Cumberbatch says he looked at reptiles, serpents and bats. Anything that he says that reminded him of a dragon. Then he had to simulate Smaug's movements so they could be captured by computer and used in the movie. It's the same method of motion capture Andy Serkis used to create Gollum. The Desolation of Smaug opens today.
