Snowman Festival in Gobles
Updated: Thursday, February 7 2013, 08:54 AM EST
GOBLES, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Here in the heart of winter, a first-of-its-kind festival is taking over the town of Gobles.
Until now, there’s never been a West Michigan event completely dedicated to the snowman.
So Klassic Arcade in Gobles pitched the idea of having a Snowman Festival and now the entire community’s pitching in.
“You don't see snowmen anymore, not like when we were kids and there were snowmen all over the place,” says festival coordinator Tammy Rynd. “Mostly the goal was to get the parents outside with the kids building snowmen. Just get them outside doing something!”
Frosty friends are popping up all over town, everything from an ice queen to a life-size football helmet.
“It gave us a real push to get outside and not just sit around indoors,” says 12-year-old Lyndsey Rynd, who built a snowmobile out of snow with her family. “It was fun, all helping out together.”
At the end of the week, the festival will honor the six best snow sculptures, with awards like Biggest Snowman, Scariest Snowman and even Best Dressed.
Coordinators say the festival is not only a friendly competition, but a wintery way to beautify the town.
“I would love to see, all the way down M-40 through Gobles, everybody having snowmen in front of their houses,” Tammy Rynd adds. “That would be awesome.”
Judging for the snowman contest will run throughout the day on Friday.
The finale of the festival will take place Saturday at 3pm at the park in Gobles, complete with awards for the winners and hot chocolate for all.

"THE VOICE" FINAL PERFORMANCES
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Adam Levine doesn't have a singer left on "The Voice." But he has a prediction. Levine says 16-year-old Danielle Bradbery will take it all. But Usher doesn't agree. He's coaching Michelle Chamuel (sham-yoo-EL') and proclaimed her the winner after one of her songs last night. Blake Shelton has two acts going into tonight's finale, Danielle and the Swon Brothers. The Swon Brothers blew the lyrics on "Danny's Song." But it didn't matter to Shelton. He says it will be a hit on Oklahoma radio later this week. Shakira is fan of the brothers, too. She says they have universal appeal. The winner will be announced tonight.
