DETROIT (AP) - A member of the gospel music Winans family has been sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison for an $8 million financial scam.

Two of Michael Winans Jr.'s victims spoke in Detroit federal court Wednesday, saying the scheme devastated families.

Winans sold oil bonds to more than 1,000 investors in 2007 and 2008. He promised 100 percent returns in two months then used the money for personal expenses or to pay off earlier investors. About 600 people are still owed nearly $5 million.

Winans eventually learned the bonds were phony but didn't tell investors and kept collecting money.

Winans is a third-generation member of one of gospel music's first families. His uncle, Marvin Winans, gave the eulogy at Whitney Houston's funeral.

JUDGE CLOSES BOOK ON LAST LINDSAY LOHAN CASE

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Lindsay Lohan is off the legal hook. For the first time in nearly eight years Lohan isn't on probation. A judge in Los Angeles yesterday signed off on Lohan's community service logs, and determined she completed her sentence. Lohan wasn't in the courtroom for the hearing. This last case stemmed from a reckless driving charge. Over the years, Lohan was briefly jailed five times and sentenced to rehab. Lohan missed a deadline last year to complete her community service. A judge earlier this year ordered Lohan to redo 125 hours of service. Prosecutors said that Lohan claimed community service credit for meeting fans of a London stage play and other questionable activities.

AP correspondent Anthony McCartney reports Lindsay Lohan has completed her sentence in a reckless driving case, and has satisfied all court requirements.
