Computer glitch stalls issuance of passports story image

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Americans worldwide are waiting on passports and visas in the works that have been stalled by a computer glitch.

The State Department says the issue is affecting embassies around the world, potentially leaving millions of Americans on hold.

The issue was first discovered Saturday and the department says it is urgently working to fix it.

The problem is not specific to any country, document or visa category.

It's not clear just how many people are affected, but an official says some 50,000 applicants were hit in one country alone.
