FDA investigating spray-on sunscreens

Updated: Wednesday, July 16, 2014

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The FDA is investigating whether or not popular spray-on sunscreens are safe to use on children.

There are concerns that inhaling the spray from those sunscreens may have harmful effects.

Now the FDA is working to figure out if the sprays irritate the lungs and cause asthma attacks.

Consumer Reports is advising parents and caregivers to avoid the sprays and opt for using lotions until the FDA investigation is complete.

If you do use a spray sunscreen it is recommended you spray it onto your hands and then rub it on your child.
