CONNECTICUT (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Lawmakers in Connecticut say they have reached a deal on the toughest gun laws in the country following the tragedy in Newtown.
It includes background checks for private gun sales. There's also a ban on sales of large-capacity magazines, as well as a new registry for existing high-capacity magazines.
Some parents of the 20 first-graders killed at Sandy Hook Elementary wanted an outright ban on the existing ammo magazines, but lawmakers allowed them to be grandfathered in.
