KENTUCKY (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Senator Mitch McConnell's staff claims they're being spied on.
Now the FBI is looking into who may have bugged his Kentucky office after a recording of his political aides ended up in the hands of a liberal magazine.
The magazine Mother Jones reported that McConnell's staff discussed ways to discredit actress Ashley Judd if she decided to run against him.
In the recordings the staff is heard talking about Judd's mental health and her left-leaning politics.
He's blaming a liberal group called Progress Kentucky, which he claims has already smeared his wife.
"Last week they were attacking my wife's ethnicity and also apparently bugging my headquarters much like Nixon and Watergate. That's what the political left does these days," said Senator McConnell.
Mother Jones Magazine says it was not involved in recording the audio and that it came from an anonymous source.
Judd has announced she does not plan to run for McConnell's seat.
