WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to begin voting on a series of gun control bills Thursday.

That legislation calls for a ban on assault weapons as well as limiting the number of bullets that can be held in a magazine clip.

It also calls for universal background checks, but some republicans don't want that to apply to sales between private individuals.
