2 men charged in young girl's death

Updated: Tuesday, February 12 2013, 08:47 AM EST
CHICAGO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Two men have now been charged in the murder of a 15-year-old Chicago teen who recently performed at the president's inauguration ceremony.

Hadiya Pendleton was the 42nd homicide victim in Chicago this year. Her death even drew condemnation from the White House.

18-year-old Michael Ward and 20-year-old Kenneth Williams have now been charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Police say Ward has confessed to last month's shooting. He reportedly told police they thought they were firing on the rival gang members who shot Williams last summer.

Hadiya's parents say they are glad the two men have been caught. They are in Washington Tuesday to attend the State of the Union Address where the president is expected to lay out his goals for gun control.
