Updated: Monday, February 18 2013, 08:55 AM EST
BAGHDAD, Iraq (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - At least 37 people are dead after a series of bombings in Baghdad.

Several car bombs were detonated throughout the city on Sunday. Officials believe Shiite Muslims were targeted in the attacks.

The explosions tore through shopping areas, mainly in Shiite neighborhoods.

This follows a similar attack in Pakistan on Saturday where 81 people were killed and 160 more injured in a series of bombing at a produce market. Those attacks also happened in a Shiite neighborhood.
