CATHLAMET, Wash. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 911 dispatcher needed help saving a kayaker who capsized in frigid water, and like so many of us did in our youth, she counted on dear old mom to bail her out.
It happened Sunday in Washington state, just as Raedyn Grasseth's shift was ending.
A frantic call for help came in from a woman describing where her friend's kayak capsized.
Grasseth knew where the boater was, and also realized it could take a patrol boat 30 minutes to get on scene.
So, she called her mom to check it out.
Grasseth's mother, Cynthia Faubian, is a retired nurse and long-time EMT.
She paddled through the pain of a broken arm toward the woman who was clinging to a piling.
At about the same time, Faubian's husband and nephew rushed over in their 14-foot skiff and helped the kayaker to safety.
