Baby saved after mother and father killed in crash

BROOKLYN, New York (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – There is a heartbreaking story out of New York Monday morning where a couple expecting a child was killed in a crash on the way to the hospital.

The couple is part of a Jewish orthodox community in Brooklyn.

They were on their way to the hospital when police say a BMW slammed into their cab.

Doctors were able to save the couple's baby in an emergency surgery, but he will grow up never getting to meet his mother or father.

"They were so together, they did everything together, just a beautiful couple," said one friend. "This is a community that we have children, and we look forward to every child, every child is a gift from god."

Following the crash the driver and a passenger in the BMW took off running. Police are still looking for them.
