WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A bipartisan immigration legislation in the Senate could exclude hundreds of thousands of immigrants from ever becoming U.S. Citizens.
That's according to a Senate aide with knowledge of the proposals that are expected to be unveiled next week.
According to the aide, the legislation would only allow people in the country prior to December 31st, 2011 to apply for legal status and ultimately U.S. Citizenship.
It would also require applicants to prove they have been in the country before the date, have a clean criminal record and show some level of employment or financial stability.
