Burglary crew arrested after bank heists

LOS ANGELES (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - It's a case straight out of heist movie. Police say they have arrested five men in a burglary crew that sawed into Los Angeles-area banks through the roofs and netted a total of $6 million.
The arrests capped a year-long investigation. Police say the thieves used power tools to cut through bank roofs as well as the top of the vaults.
They also wore matching tennis shoes to prevent any single crew member from being identified by footprints.
They pulled this off at four different banks before being nabbed on Friday after cutting a hole in the roof of a Citibank.
"They could actually get inside while the helicopter flies over and patrol cars arriving can't look on the roofs," said Detective Nick Cannis.
Police say they got on the crew's trail when DNA found at one of the banks matched one of the suspects, who had served time in prison on another crime.
