(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Authorities in Florida say a family who made its fortune by selling accessories for teenage girls fell victim to an extortion attempt.
The whole plot was captured on audiotape.
Police say Clmaille Brown, the daughter of a long-time housekeeper for the man who first opened Claire's accessory stores, blackmailed the family for $3 million.
The extortion began after Brown's mother was fired.
She threatened to reveal embarrassing letters and journals unless she was paid $3 million.
Brown was arrested in a parking lot and charged with extortion.
In an email, Brown's attorney denies any extortion and says Brown was given the letters by Rowland Schaeffer's own wife.
