PLANTATION, Fla. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An employee who opted out of an office Powerball pool can consider herself extra lucky after her co-workers won $1 million and decided to give her a cut.
It was a Powerball win worth every million-dollar smile for the 12 employees at Keller Williams Realty in Plantation, Florida.
Employee number 13, Jennifer Maldonado, who had just started her job at the office on March 8th came up short and decided to pass on the group Powerball pool.
As luck would have it, they won $1 million.
Maldonado thought it was all a cruel joke when she walked into work the next day, but their million dollar prize was as real as Maldonado's next surprise.
"We decided to include her and give her some of the money so that she would feel all the excitement, and part of the family, and know how much we cared about her," explained Laurie Finkelstein-Reader, one of the winners.
While they will not say how much money they will give Maldonado, but it's definitely enough to make her happy.
Next time the group plays, Maldonado says she'll be sure to ante up.
