Florida trying designated texters campaign

Updated: Wednesday, February 20 2013, 08:33 AM EST
FLORIDA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Transportation officials in Florida are starting a new campaign to try and curb distracted driving, designated texters.

They want people to pledge to take control of a driver's smart-phone when they are a passenger and deal with any texts that might come in while the vehicle is on the move.

The idea came from the designated driver campaigns that urge people to take the keys if their friends have been drinking.

Florida officials are pushing this designated texter program hard, since it is one of the few states remaining that does not have a ban on texting while driving.
