WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Vice President Joe Biden joined members of Congress to dedicate a meeting room in the U.S. Capitol in honor of Gabe Zimmerman.
Zimmerman was a staffer for former Representative Gabbrielle Giffords.
He was one of six killed in the January 2011 shooting in Tucson, Arizona that critically wounded Giffords.
Mark Kelly, Gifford's husband, said the room will be a reminder of Zimmerman's courage and dedication to his job.
“It was no surprise for me to learn that immediately after the shootings started Gabe ran towards Gabby and towards the other victims, towards the shooter and towards danger, putting himself in service to others was Gabe's last act on this earth,” said Mark Kelly.
The room is the first in the Capitol Visitor's Center to be named for an individual and the first in the entire Capitol Complex to be named for a congressional staffer.
