KANSAS CITY, Mo. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Diners reported a strong smell of gas hours before the deadly explosion at JJ's Restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri Tuesday night.

Firefighters checked out the reports, but did not evacuate anyone.

Now, rescue crews are digging through the rubble searching for victims.

One body was found in the bar area Wednesday, and 15 were hurt.

Firefighters have confirmed that there was an accident at a construction site about an hour before the explosion.

Investigators are looking into whether the contractors working on the site had proper permits.
