Updated: Sunday, March 3 2013, 01:11 PM EST
WEST ORANGE, N.J. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A study by a Brigham Young University professor shows that hurricanes spawn baby booms.

Right now, doctors in New Jersey are experiencing the phenomenon first hand.

Doctors are calling it the Sandy Baby Boom.

Many offices have seen such an increase in pregnancies right now that they had to stop taking new patients.

Scientists say this is common, especially when the lights go out during hurricanes.

They say there is just more opportunity for reproductive behavior.
