GULF OF MEXICO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A nightmare voyage for thousands of cruise ship passengers is about to come to an end.

A Carnival cruise ship that lost power over the weekend is expected to reach port in Alabama Thursday.

Tug boats had to pull the massive ship back to shore after a fire in the engine room.

The power failure led to food shortages, overflowing toilets and hot days with no air conditioning.

"They were eating onion sandwiches and they were being requested to using the red bags to urinate and go to the bathroom in," said Kimberly McKerreghan.

One passenger says she had to wait in line for three hours to get a hot dog.

Carnival says all the passengers will receive full refunds as well as 500 dollars and credit toward a future cruise.
