Police look into shooting of Colorado corrections head

Updated: Wednesday, March 20 2013, 06:20 PM EDT
DENVER (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police are trying to figure out who shot the head of the Colorado Department of Corrections.

Last night, someone killed Tom Clements as he answered his door.

Currently, Denver police are combing the neighborhood looking for clues.

Clements took over the top job in Colorado's Corrections Department two years ago.

So far, investigators say they don't know why someone would want to kill him, but they're open to all possibilities.

Clements leaves behind a wife and two daughters.

The shooting happened just before Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed three new gun control measures into law.

The laws expand background checks to cover gun shows and Internet sales, and restrict the size of ammunition magazines.
