Pres. Obama kicks off visit to Israel

Updated: Wednesday, March 20 2013, 06:21 PM EDT
ISRAEL (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - President Obama is in Israel at this hour to mend his strained relationship with leaders there.

Wednesday, he was greeted by both the Israeli Prime Minister and President.

This trip marks Obama's first trip to Israel as Commander-in-Chief.

He promised both leaders that the U.S. would continue to support Israel and work to protect its people.

"I see this visit as an opportunity to reaffirm the unbreakable bond between our nations, and to restate America's unwavering commitment to Israel's security," President Obama said.

The President will visit the Palestinian President later this week and will also stop in Jordan before returning to the U.S.

Meanwhile, the President's travel team is hoping that his limo even makes it to the end of the trip.

The Presidential limousine, nicknamed The Beast, broke down in Jerusalem on Wednesday, after its driver reportedly fueled up with gasoline rather than diesel fuel.

It had to be towed.

The President was in a meeting elsewhere when it happened.
