Pres. Obama reaching out to GOP to end budget stalemate

Updated: Thursday, March 7 2013, 09:17 PM EST
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - President Obama is reaching out to Republicans in an effort to end a budget stalemate.

Thursday at the White House, he hosted Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan, who also runs the House Budget Committee.

The President also met with a dozen GOP Senators for dinner Wednesday night, and plans to make two trips back to Washington next week for even more meetings with lawmakers.

His efforts came after Congress failed to stop automatic budget cuts from taking effect.

Speaker of the House John Boehner says he's hopeful this could lead to constructive talks.
