Push to allow same-sex spouses to be buried in national cemeteries

Updated: Tuesday, March 5 2013, 09:15 AM EST
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - There's a new push in Washington to allow same-sex spouses of veterans to be buried in national cemeteries.

16 democratic senators are calling on the Department of Veterans Affairs to issue waivers so that can happen.

One of those waivers has already been granted.

They say offering burial rights in national cemeteries to same-sex spouses is a matter of fairness to veterans and are urging VA officials to expedite the waiver process.
