Rumors swirl that Colorado theater shooter converted to Islam

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Rumors have surfaced that the man accused in the Colorado theater shooting last summer has converted to Islam.

According to the Daily Mail, sources say an unnamed prisoner is quoted as saying James Holmes has converted to Islam, prays several times a day, and studies the Koran.

The source also says Holmes believes the shooting massacre last July was "part of his own personal jihad."

Rumors are also swirling around Holmes' fellow Muslim inmates who are not pleased with his so-called conversion, saying they don't want his crimes to be associated with their religion.

The rumors have not been confirmed, but if they are true, the revelation could be used against him, as his mental state has been called into question.
