(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A South Florida boy can thank his dad and a perfect stranger for rescuing him from the jaws of a cold-blooded killer.
Friday afternoon, 6-year-old Joey Welch and his dad were supposed to go canoeing in Boynton Beach.
But Joey wandered off by himself for a moment and stumbled into the water's edge.
That's when his father heard him screaming.
Joey's father ran into the water about waist deep and grabbed hold of his son while he began punching the alligator in the top of the head again and again.
A good Samaritan heard the commotion and ran over to help.
Eventually, they were able to free Joey from the animal's grip.
Amazingly, the little boy suffered only minor injuries.
