Teen receives 3 life sentences for school shooting

Updated: Wednesday, March 20 2013, 10:05 AM EDT
OHIO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Ohio teen has received three life sentences for shooting and killing three classmates at his school, and during that sentencing the teen lashed out at the families of his victims.

18-year-old T.J. Lane walked into the courtroom wearing a blue-collared shirt, but he quickly took that off, revealing a white T-shirt underneath with the word "Killer" written on it.

Police say Lane wore a shirt similar when he fired 10 shots into his high school cafeteria, killing three students.

During the sentencing Lane kept smiling, taunting family members of the victims and even started swearing at them.

"This hand pulled the trigger that killed your sons ... (expletive) all of you," said Lane.

Following Lane's outburst the victims' families were given a chance to speak.

"You're really lucky there's so many police in this room right now," said one.

"You are a pathetic excuse for a human being. In fact, you are not even a human being. You don't deserve to be called human. You are a monster and forever will be titled a triple murderer," said another.

Investigators say Lane admitted to the shooting, but claims he doesn't know why he did it.
