(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 19-year-old man in Texas faces up to life in prison if convicted of making and selling pot brownies.

The severity of the potential sentence is generating outrage.

About 100 of Jacob Lavoro's supporters gathered outside the county courthouse on Thursday, prior to a pre-trial court hearing.

They held signs, sold shirts, and talked about the move to decriminalize marijuana.

Lavoro is accused of baking and selling pot brownies.

He's charged with a first-degree felony, and faces between 5 and 99 years in prison.

Lavoro's attorney has filed a motion to suppress the evidence.

He accuses investigators of failing to identify themselves as police officers before they entered Lavoro's apartment.
