White House: President working on immigration proposal

Updated: Sunday, February 17 2013, 05:30 PM EST
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough says President Barack Obama is working with a bipartisan group of Senators on an immigration overhaul, but hasn't made any proposals yet.

USA Today is reporting that the White House has drafted a plan that would create a VISA for those in the country illegally and allow them to become legal permanent residents within eight years.

McDonough says that the White House would only go forward with a plan if lawmakers fail in their efforts.
