Mich. Gov. Snyder says fed health exchange looms

Updated: Tuesday, March 19 2013, 09:05 AM EDT
DETROIT (AP) - Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder says time is running out to work with the federal government on an online health care marketplace, and people would likely regret lawmakers' failure to act.

The Republican governor told The Associated Press Monday the GOP-controlled Senate has until week's end to approve the partnership exchange before lawmakers go on spring break. He says there's not enough time afterward.

Snyder says that would leave Michigan with a "pure federal exchange" and no state involvement. He says it would mean "worse customer service" for the hundreds of thousands expected to shop and buy their insurance online.

Senate Republicans spokeswoman Amber McCann says they don't see this week as the "make-or-break point." The GOP-controlled House last month OK'd spending a $31 million federal grant for the partnership exchange.
