MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A review of Michigan home daycares found 20 of them out of compliance with state safety requirements.

The report was released Monday by the U.S. Health and Human Services Inspector General's Office.

It says conditions in 19 of the homes failed to meet some standards. 16 of them failed state records and supervision requirements.

Ten providers had not properly completed criminal background checks for assistant caregivers.

Other problems included blocked pathways or inadequate fire escape exits and chemicals labeled "flammable" stored near a furnace and water heater.
