Portage Road closed by crash  KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety says that Portage Road has been closed by a crash.




The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids issues a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Jackson, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Muskegon, Montcalm, Oceana, and Newaygo counties from 1 AM Thursday morning until 4 PM in the afternoon.  The ADVISORY speaks to the development of snow, sleet, and freezing rain prior to the Thursday morning commute.  Accumulations of ice are under 1/10" before an ultimate transition to snow everywhere, but we know it doesn't take a lot of ice to cause problems.  Projected accumulations ... Muskegon to Grand Rapids to Lansing: 1" to 2" ... south of that line including Kalamazoo: under 1".

Armed Robbery in Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids, MICH. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating after an armed robbery happened at Woody's Cone Shop.

Officers responded to an armed robbery in progress in the 700 block of 28th Street SE around 11:30 Saturday night.

The suspect reportedly entered the business near closing time and confronted employees with a handgun.

The employees were moved to the area of the safe where the suspect attempted to get the code to get inside the safe.

Dispatch was notified during the robbery that something may have been wrong at the store.

Multiple officers responded, setting up a perimeter around the business.

As officers got into position, the suspect ran out the front door and took off on foot.

The 22 year old suspect ran to the back of the building where he was arrested by officers.

A weapon and stolen property were recovered and the suspect is being held on an armed robbery charge.
