PAW PAW, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Crowds are gathering Wednesday, July 16th for the grand opening of the new Paw Paw Walmart Supercenter.

A company spokesman says it is bringing 200+ jobs to the area.

It's located at the busy intersection of I-94 and M-40.

The 120,000 square foot facility features a full line of groceries, including fresh produce and a bakery, Pharmacy with drive-thru, Vision Center and Walmart Site-to-Store.

This event is 8-years in the making. Walmart started this process in 2006 but the store was delayed because of the economy.

The Paw Paw Village Council approved a site plan for the project in April of 2012 and construction began in September 2013.

The location is the same area where K-Mart had plans to build in 2000 before it filed for bankruptcy.

Some small businesses in the area are concerned the Walmart will take customers away from them, but the Downtown Development Authority is hopeful it will bring more shoppers into the area.
