GM to pay out at least $400M to victims' families

Updated: Friday, July 25, 2014

DETROIT (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - General Motors is expecting to pay out at least $400 million to victims' families, due to a faulty ignition switch problem which wasn't recalled for years.

The problem has been linked to the deaths of at least 13 people, and the company's second quarter profit fell 85 percent as the recall cost them $1.5 billion.

Still, GM posted a net profit of $190 million.

So far, about 30 million cars have been recalled by GM this year.
