(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Kalamazoo man accused of killing his toddler son is now headed to trial.Nehemiah "Nemo" Dodd died at Bronson Hospital in early January. This comes after his father, Brian Roberts, told investigators that his son fell down the stairs in their home.Roberts was chared with first degree child abuse and felony murder back in May.Newschannel 3 was in court for the latest details. There's no question it was difficult for everyone in court Wednesday to hear about the details of the moments before and after the little boy's death.Roberts was having a tough time with it as well."He said he fell straight backwards and hit the back of his head, and immediately siezes up and became disoriented," Kalamazoo Detective Kristen Cole testified. "That's when he started performing rescue breaths."Meanwhile, forensic pathologist Rainey Schattuck said the injuries were "significant, non-accidental trauma."Roberts told the detective in his last interview that all of this was an accident, he was scared, and never meant to kill his son.A third charge of second degree murder was added by a judge Wednesday.A trial date has not yet been set.
