Officers help young boy after his bike was stolen Updated: Thursday, July 17, 2014 KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL3 ) – A Kalamazoo boy is able to ride again, thanks to the kindness of police officers. Newschannel 3 is told that on Tuesday 10-year-old Chris Ruiz was dragged from his bike by three older boys near Kalamazoo Christian Middle School, those boys then took off with his bike. Ruiz then called 911 in hopes of getting his bike back. On Wednesday, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers that responded showed back up with a new bike just for him. “I was really surprised,” said Ruiz. “I was just really happy they brought me a new bike.” Ruiz’s mother tells Newschannel 3 that Ruiz saved his allowance and paid for his original bike himself. She says she’s grateful to the officers for showing her son that the world has people that care.
