WIND ADVISORY

10 AM Until 2 AM Saturday

The National Weather Service maintains a WIND ADVISORY for nearly all of West Michigan from 10 AM this morning until 2 AM Saturday morning.  45 mph gusts are likely inland while 50 mph gusts are possible at the Lake Shore.  This kind of wind is capable of bringing down tree branches and creating some power outages.  Obviously, we hope that doesn't happen.  Winds blow from the northwest this morning then from the north by midday and beyond.  Stay with wwmt.com for your weather today and always!

WMU solar race team headed to Texas

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Western Michigan's solar race team is headed to Texas to test its skills against teams from all over the world.

It's part of the 2014 American Solar Challenge.

The 14-member team leaves Saturday morning for the big venture that will take part in two qualifying events.

They will first show off their Sunseeker Solar Car as it undergoes a detailed technical check as well as three days of racing in the Formula Sun Grand Prix.

Then the big race begins July 21st in Austin and ends over 1,700 miles later on July 28th in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

This year marks the 25th year of solar racing at WMU.
