THREE RIVERS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Three men are facing multiple felony charges, including child endangerment, after fleeing police and leading them on a chase in Three Rivers with a baby in their vehicle.
The incident began on Monday night when officers came across a vehicle believed to have been used in a string of thefts from local businesses.
Officers stopped the vehicle as it left the store. When they asked the driver to turn the car off they driver floored the accelerator.
Police chased the suspects through third ward before it crashed into a power pole on Constantine St. at Hill St. As the car came to a rest police say the driver took off running, dropping stolen items as he went.
A K-9 unit was called in and tracked the driver to yard near the crash.
Once the driver was then taken into custody police turned their focus on the other two suspects.
A passing couple then told police they saw the two fleeing suspects running west through the neighborhood.
The couple agreed to take an officer to the area in their car.
As the citizen's approached, the suspects attempted to hail them for a ride.
The two additional suspects were arrested in a field on Swartz St. near Erie St. The men had apparently fled from the crash carrying the 6-month old.
The baby was checked out by paramedics and then returned to his mother.
The driver was treated for cuts to his leg before he was lodged at St. Joseph County Jail.
The other two suspects were also lodged.
The men are facing multiple felony charges including Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, child endangerment, theft, flee and elude police, resisting an officer and child abuse.
