BATTLE CREEK (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Battle Creek Police are trying to figure out the intentions of someone who handed a student a handmade Valentine through the fence of an elementary school.

It happened during lunch hour near the playground at Franklin Elementary, the day before Valentine’s Day.

A teacher saw the man give the girl the card and asked if she knew him. The girl said she didn’t.

When the girl opened the card it had hearts inside and writing that said, “You are different and that’s why I love you.”

The girl’s parents were notified. Police have been put on notice about the incident and asked to keep an eye out for anything suspicious around the school.
