BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - It's a sure sign of spring in West Michigan--Binder Park Zoo is just about ready to open for the season.
The kids faces say it all--spring and summer are about to get a little wild.
"There's so many different expressions, and you know they don't hold back," said Kari Parker, about the kids. "They're just so excited to be able to get up close with the animals."
One of those animals is Raj the snow leopard--11 months old, and brand new to the zoo, and quickly becoming a rising star.
A trip to the zoo opening is sort of like a trip around the world--you'll see lemurs lounging, gibbons sun-bathing, and maybe even cross paths with a peacock.
"Something that's very unique about Binder Park Zoo is our giraffe feeding," Parker said. "You can come to Wild Africa and get nose to nose with a giraffe."
Jumping around between exhibits, zoogoers can also come eye-to-eye with old friends.
"Our black bears we rescued last year from Alaska are going to be on exhibit sometime this summer, and I think guests are going to be surprised at how much they've grown over the winter," Parker said.
So, grab your cameras, grab your kids, and grab a whole new season of zoo-filled fun.
The zoo officially opens for its 36th season on Saturday.
There are also lots of fun events coming up there this spring and summer, including Corks for Conservation, and kids summer camps.
