HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A community gathered together Monday night to hold a candlelight vigil in memory of a young father who was killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday morning.
24-year-old Joshua Owens was hit and killed in front of the Itty Bitty Bar in Holland Township just before 1:00 a.m.
Owens' older brother says he was out celebrating his wife's 21st birthday and went across the street to get cab fair from an ATM when two drivers hit him.
“I saw the lights and it's hard to see a body on the street and know your brother's lying under the sheet,” said Derek Owens.
Investigators say the two cars Owens' was hit by were driven by Jeremie Collins and Moly Phongsavanahn. Detectives believe they were drag racing.
Owens' leaves behind a wife and a three-year-old daughter.
Funeral services have been set for Joshua Owens for this coming Thursday.
It will be held at The Real Life Fellowship in Holland at 11:00 a.m.
Visitation will take place Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at Lakeshore Memorial Services.
